GeraMarket in Nigeria 2026 — Selling online in Nigeria — SON, SCUML, and how to compete with Jumia and Konga

Published 21 April 2026 · 9 min read

Quick answer: GeraMarket is a marketplace for Nigerian sellers. Seller commission is lower than Jumia/Konga for most categories, payouts hit a Nigerian bank account in 48 hours via Paystack/Flutterwave, and we accept Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, bank transfer (NIBSS) and Visa/Mastercard/Verve. Products listed as NAFDAC-regulated (food, cosmetics, drugs) must show a valid NAFDAC number. Regulated electronics must show a SON conformity mark (SONCAP).

Nigerian e-commerce in 2026

Jumia (listed on NYSE) and Konga dominate e-commerce but seller complaints about payout delays and high commission are real. PayPorte, Ajebomarket and several Instagram-first boutiques have taken share since 2023. The gap: a seller-friendly marketplace with lower commission and fast settlements to Nigerian bank accounts.

The regulation you need to get right

Four regulators matter. The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) runs the SONCAP conformity assessment for imported regulated electronics, appliances and construction materials. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) regulates food, drink, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices and chemicals — every item needs a NAFDAC number on pack. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) handles unfair-practice complaints. And the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML) under the EFCC requires registration for designated non-financial businesses, which includes e-commerce operators.

Pricing and commission

Prices in ₦ via useCountry(). Seller commission: 5% for electronics, 8% for fashion, 10% for beauty/cosmetics, 12% for food. That is lower than the typical Jumia rate card for most categories. Payout is T+2 to any Nigerian bank.

Payments

Paystack, Flutterwave, Opay, Palmpay, Visa/Mastercard/Verve, and NIBSS Instant Payment direct transfers. We are evaluating USSD flows for feature-phone reach. PoS on delivery is supported in Lagos.

Cities and logistics

Lagos (Ikeja, Victoria Island, Lekki, Yaba), Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Kano, Benin City. Last-mile via GIG Logistics, Kwik and local couriers; same-day in Lagos mainland for most categories.

How we compare

Jumia and Konga are the scale plays with their own logistics. We are the seller-friendly lane: lower commission, faster payouts, transparent rules. We do not compete with Alibaba or AliExpress on cross-border; if that is your need they are better served.
