Armenia has an unusually entrepreneurial e-commerce scene relative to its population. Small producers in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Dilijan, and the marzes sell everything from handmade lavash boards and dried apricots to small-batch pottery, jewellery, wines, cognacs, and textiles. Most currently sell through LaLafo, List.am, Instagram, and Facebook Marketplace β channels that work, but which leave the seller doing most of the payments, logistics, tax, and trust-building work manually. GeraMarket is the alternative.
Regulation β SRC + RA Consumer Rights
Sales on GeraMarket are subject to RA consumer-rights law (warranty, right to return, price transparency, clear seller identity). For sellers, tax is handled through the State Revenue Committee (SRC). Individual entrepreneurs and LLCs alike can export their GeraMarket transaction history in SRC-compatible format for VAT and turnover-tax filing. Below the VAT threshold (currently 115 million AMD in turnover), sellers operate under the simpler turnover-tax regime β the platform keeps track of the running total so you know where you stand.

Armenian use case β a Gyumri ceramicist
A small ceramics studio in Gyumri previously sold only at the local Vardanants Square market on weekends. On GeraMarket, the owner lists 40 SKUs with photos taken in the workshop, prices in AMD, offers shipping to all of Armenia plus international, and accepts Idram + international cards. Within three months, 60% of orders are from Yerevan and 25% from diaspora buyers in Glendale, Montreal, and Paris buying gifts. The seller files monthly through the SRC turnover-tax regime using the platform export. None of the friction of managing the payments, shipping, or currency conversion stays with the seller.
Diaspora export β the real unlock
Armenian-made goods β apricots, wine, cognac, cheese, hand-woven rugs, ceramics, jewellery, religious icons, books, children's toys, beauty products β have strong demand in the Armenian diaspora. The diaspora population is several times larger than Armenia's resident population. Every Armenian in Los Angeles, Moscow, Paris, Toronto, Beirut, Buenos Aires, or Sydney who wants a taste of home is a potential customer.
The historical blocker has been shipping and payment friction for small sellers. GeraMarket removes it: the seller lists once in AMD, the platform handles international shipping quotes, the diaspora buyer pays in USD / EUR / CAD / RUB via Visa or Mastercard, the seller is paid out in AMD to an Armenian bank account.
GeraMarket vs. LaLafo and List.am
The incumbents are entrenched and not going away:
- LaLafo / List.am: free listings, massive reach, payment off-platform in cash on delivery, zero buyer/seller protection, limited international reach
- GeraMarket: commission-based (no win = no fee on unsold items), on-platform payment in AMD, buyer protection, shipping integration, international reach, structured tax export
Both channels can coexist β many Armenian sellers use LaLafo for local bulky sales (furniture, cars) and GeraMarket for smaller, shippable, higher-margin goods where trust and international reach matter.
